Welcome to the inaugural issue of Dispatches.
This project arrives out of a desire for space, focus, and utility. Configured as a monthly gathering of ideas, Dispatches is a quiet room in a loud digital world, a place dedicated to the structural precision of creative work, the deep architecture of literary craft, and the practical magic of education.
Every month, you will find new creative work, reflections from the desk, updates on new publications, and foundational resources designed for the classroom and the workshop.
Thank you for reading, for engaging, and for sharing in this space.

THE PORTFOLIO
Focus: Creative Work
Square One
by Phillip Shabazz
My words don’t march in straight lines.
They wander, stumble, and carry scuffs on their shoes.
They don’t always rhyme. They don’t bow.
Some slip in like smoke through a keyhole,
a hush too heavy to stay quiet.
Others burst like glass remembering
it was born of sand and flame.
This page isn’t paper.
It’s a torch path blazing beneath the stars.
The margins carry the scent of spring.
Each line opens a door.
The ink remembers its first journey,
how to wander, how to burn,
how to lead you somewhere
you’ve never been
that feels like coming home.
